December Meeting

The December meeting will convene on the 19th at the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce building. For this meeting, Alhambra's usual festive atmosphere will be augmented by a club potluck and holiday plant exchange. DJ has issued the following edict concerning participation in said festive holiday exchange (hint: DJ would really dig a nice pot of Hedera helix ssp. canariensis):

"And on this note let me remind everyone that at the December meeting in addition to the Potluck, we will have a Christmas Plant Exchange. One Requirement; NO COMMON PLANTS. So no Nepenthes homedepotensis, Drosera capensis, Sarracenia lowesii, Generic VFT. Ideally, the plant you bring should be uncommon. Rare plants are also ok, but many times

they are rare because they are hard to grow, so use good judgement if you bring a rare plant. VFTs are ok if they are named cultivars. Same with Sarr hybrids, as long as they are either named cultivars, or the ancestry is documented. Pings are uncommon enough that any of them should be ok. Any of the unusual Genera such as Genlisea, Darlingtonia, Cephalotus are acceptable. Utrics ok, as long as they are not the weedy types such as subulata or longifolia, or common aquatics like gibba.
Now the twist on the plant exchange will be this. Each plant will be assigned a number. Every member participating (meaning everyone who brought an acceptable plant) will pull a number out of a hat to determine order of play. The first player picks a number out of a hat, this tells them which plant they can claim. The second player can choose to either steal player one's plant, or pick a number from the hat. Each subsequent player can choose to either steal a previously awarded plant, or pull a number from the hat. Any player who has had a plant stolen immediately gets a new turn. They can either choose a number, or steal a plant, with ONE exception. They CANNOT steal the plant just stolen from them. In addition, any specific plant can be stolen only THREE times. After that, they become inert and are out of the game, along with their current owner. "
